In the springtime in the Midwest, as you know, you can get a TON of precipitation. With that rain comes high rivers and lakes. We have had one of those years in 2020. The James River has been up near flood stage much of the early part of this year.

I have the privilege of driving over the river every day on my way home from work. This gives me a good idea of the water level and clarity regardless of what my River apps are telling me.

This week saw dry sunny weather and had the river dropping to near perfect conditions. I headed out on Tuesday, March 31st with overcast conditions to test my luck on the James River near Nixa Missouri.

The watercolor was stained with about 2 ft of visibility. I broke out the chartreuse squarebill and hooked into a nice River Smallmouth! Enjoy.
